Compare needle choices for piecing, quilting and embroidery
Choose for the task you will actually sew. Passing through a layered quilt and working with repeated embroidery stitches can call for different features.
Separate piecing from layered quilting
Test with the same fabric and layers you plan to use. When you move from piecing to quilting, compare the needle's point and the size recommendation for the new layers. Keep the machine system fixed.
Compare thread handling for embroidery
SCHMETZ describes an enlarged eye and wider groove on its Embroidery needle. Compare the thread path and the stated thread use with your project, particularly when the thread is heavier or more delicate.
Check exact pack and finish
Some embroidery packs use a coated needle and some use a standard finish. Choose the exact model and size supported by the machine and intended fabric. Treat the coating as a product feature with its own documentation.
